VF climbs on measured steps.

VF reported really solid performance yesterday and, perhaps even more important, reflected a sound, pragmatic, still confident view of the trek going forward into '08 and beyond.

While Nautica suffered from price promotion at outlets, the rest of the company's stable of brands racked up strong performance on the year, including new entries,Seven For All Mankind and Lucy. International growth is particularly impressive.

The transition to new exec leadership seems to be going well, which is always a real concern in brand environments (who feels the love?) and all indicators suggest that VF will continue to be a multi-brand star performer in the foreseeable future.

Given the strength of the company, and the nervousness of the marketplace, this feels like it could be a really good time for some opportunistic moves, maybe picking off some channel deals or knocking off a weakened competitor or two. Nothing specific or concrete to go on here, just instinct and intuition.
