Disney continues to push the limits of brand franchise extension.

Listening to the Disney call this afternoon was a great reminder of the remarkable potential of brands in the right creative hands. In keeping with the success of Cars, the company is firing on all cylinders, and not missing a single opportunity to branch out with successful IP. Hannah Montana and High School Musical have both been huge hits this year, but should be viewed not as anomalies, but as templates for more to come.

I was also delighted to hear that 3D films (including re-releases) and virtual world extensions are planned in a number of areas. More great examples of keeping brands alive with ever newer and technologically fresher iterations.

Lots of momentum going forward. I smell a great 08/09 coming. A welcome bit of creative optimism in an otherwise sucky day (excuse the use of the technical term).
