World's largest retailer yanks magazines.

As Silicon Alley Insider reports this morning, Wal-Mart is pulling major titles out of its stores, presumably on data that shows the footage would be more productive stocked with something else, maybe tube socks. Not surprising, really, given the migration to new media. Music CDs will be next to go. Then DVDs. Think of all that square footage that will be put to other use. More food and drugs. Maybe more in-store clinics. Higher margin stuff that doesn't travel well digitally.
