The YouTube effect: Hollywood headed for extreme makeover.

All the news and rumblings out of NBC and CAA and other Hollywood power brokers points clearly to a total upheaval of the old Hollywood production machine.

Look for lots and lots of new startups funded by VC and Angel investors that look like a hybrid of Disney Studios and Danny's Basement. As a for instance, take Will Ferrell's comedy-film company announced a few months ago and funded, in part, by Marc Andreessen. The WGA strike only makes this more likely. Add to that the announcement to the press yesterday by Jeff Zucker that NBC will be outsourcing a "block" of regular programming to independent companies.

Let the feeding frenzy begin. This should be fun.
